Canada’s newly-minted Prime Minister is announcing a mint for Jasper’s rebuild.
Prime Minister Mark Carney today (Thursday, March 20, 2025) announced a $187 million investment to help repair and rebuild critical infrastructure in Jasper National Park.
The funding, provided to Parks Canada over two years, will support the reconstruction of roads, campgrounds, trails and permanent staff housing, and help provide interim housing options for staff and residents during the community’s rebuild, the PMO said.
“During last summer’s devastating Jasper wildfire, Canadians came together to protect and support this incredible town,” Carney said while in Edmonton. “Our new investment will help restore Canada’s crown jewel and help the people of Jasper rebuild their park, their economy, and their lives.”
The infrastructure is essential to the town of Jasper and Jasper National Park, according to Carney’s press release.
“The funding announced today will help accelerate rebuilding during the construction season beginning in May, avoiding delays and ensuring these critical repairs are completed effectively,” it said.
Carney won the liberal leadership earlier this month and was sworn in as prime minister last Friday. He’s expected to call an election for April 28 or May 5.
