There were 64 new Jaspers in Alberta last year.
Alberta’s vital statistics, including all of the baby names from Alberta births, were published on January 20.
Each year Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, the provincial department responsible for vital statistics, publishes a list of Alberta’s top baby names, complied from the birth information provided by parents and registered by the department.
The top name for boys was, for the sixth year in a row, Noah. Olivia led the way for baby girls, the 12th time that name has held the crown.
Along with baby Andromeda (1), baby Drake (1) and baby Happy-Rose (1), there were 59 baby boys and five baby girls named Jasper.
There were zero babies in 2024 named Banff.
Jasper-adjacent names for girls included Amethyst (3), Annette (2), Edith (6) and Edna (1).
Keeping with nature-inspired monikers, five families named their baby boy Bear in 2024 and eight went with Aspen (five girls, three boys). One family welcomed a new baby Trail.
There were more than 50,000 babies born in 2024, according to Minister Dale Nally.
