Hundreds of racers and hundreds more supporting those runners this weekend helped in the ongoing efforts to Rebuild Jasper.
On November 30, the Rebuild Jasper Run attracted more than 250 participants who ran through snow flurries and under socked-in skies with the understanding that brighter days will be ahead for Jasper.
“This was more than just a run, it’s a chance to support the rebuilding of our beloved community,” said Trevor Soll, owner of Multisportscanada and the organizer of the Rebuild Jasper Run.
Soll said the event has so far raised more than $22,000 for the Jasper Community Team Society and the Jasper Volunteer Fire Brigade, surpassing its initial goal of $10,000. The Rebuild Jasper fundraising platform is open until December 31. Soll hopes to reach at least $25K.
Racers signed up for a 16 km run, an 8k, a 5k or a 1k. Jasper’s Theo Francis was edged out by a mere two seconds by Edmontonian Aaran James for fastest in the 16 km category.
Brooklyn Rushton from Jasper finished first among females.
Edmonton runner Syl Lemelin raised $1,800 and was the top individual fundraiser.
“Thank you to everyone who support these athletes, the community and the local charities. Every bit of it matters to the community,” Soll said.
