A short section of the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93N) is all clear after a mudslide came down from Mount Murchison near Mistaya Canyon, in Banff National Park.
The mudslide was reported late Friday night (August 16), according to Parks Canada. It was cleared by Saturday evening.
The Icefield Centre, Mistaya Canyon, Bow Lake, and Peyto Lake are all accessible again via Highway 1 at Lake Louise. The Icefields Parkway remains closed north of the Icefield Centre while Jasper National Park resources are directed to the Jasper Wildfire Complex.
Parks Canada reminds visitors that with limited visitor safety resources, the Toe of the Athabasca Glacier trail is open, but only authorized operators are allowed on the glacier.
The Icefields Parkway remains closed north of the Icefield Centre. There is no access to the Town of Jasper. Trails and campgrounds are closed in Jasper National Park.
Motorists are advised to check Alberta 511 for the most up-to-date conditions on the Icefields Parkway.
