On July 9, FCL said the incident has been contained.
“As we continue forward with resuming normal operations, we’re working towards bringing all systems back online safely.”
Shelves in a Jasper grocery store have been barren this week and a local wholesaler has been forced to reduce service levels after a cybersecurity incident compromised a major food supplier.
On June 27, Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), which supplies TGP Jasper, alerted the public via its social media channels that some of its grocery stores and fuel locations were being impacted.
“FCL is experiencing a cybersecurity incident that is impacting some internal and customer facing systems at local retail Co-ops and cardlock fuel locations…as a precaution we have shut down some of our systems.”
On June 29, the federation said the cybersecurity incident could impact its inventory of certain grocery items. On July 3 they were still thanking their customers for their patience and said they were making significant progress in restoring some operations.
“The cybersecurity incident has slowed down certain aspects of our business, but we are prioritizing key grocery items and consumer goods for delivery to local Co-ops,” a social media update said.
During Jasper’s busy summers, an influx of visitors quickly draws down what groceries are available in Jasper’s three main grocery stores. After the impact of the cybersecurity breach, many of TGP’s shelves were picked bare.
FCL also supplies Jasper wholesale grocer, JFI Foods. On July 1, JFI announced the temporary suspension of its home delivery service and was alerting its business clients that they would be unable to deliver some grocery products. On July 8, their sales representatives were clambering to supply their regular customers with what was available.
“We appreciate your patience and support,” JFI wrote on Facebook.
At one local café, Estio Jasper, owner Dwain Gilzene said he’s had to make due without such staples as avocados and romaine lettuce.
Throughout their response to the incident, FCL has said there has been no evidence that consumer data was compromised.
JFI and TGP are asking their Jasper customers to watch their social media channels for updated information.
