Increased avalanche hazard will put Jasper National Park public safety officials on alert
Parks Canada is warning motorists and the travelling public about the potential for closures on the Icefields Parkway and the Maligne Lake Road.
Warm temperatures over the next several days in Jasper and Banff national parks will increase the avalanche hazard, the agency said on Thursday afternoon (March 14).
“For public safety, Parks Canada may close the Icefields Parkway (93N) and Maligne Lake Road for avalanche control work with short notice between Friday afternoon, March 15 and Sunday evening, March 17, 2024,” a press release states.
Motorists should be prepared for changing conditions and should consider travelling earlier in the day or later in the evening, when temperatures are cooler, it notes.
Parks Canada urges the public to monitor 511.Alberta.ca frequently as closures are based on actual conditions.
