Two Jasper residents are facing multiple charges after police units in Jasper seized weapons and drugs from a local address.
On January 12, Jasper RCMP, with the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services and Edson RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit, executed a search warrant at a Jasper residence.
As a result of the search warrant, multiple items were seized, including suspected cocaine, suspected methamphetamines, suspected fentanyl, two shotguns, three rifles, two handguns, two replica handguns and one conducted energy weapon (commonly known as a taser).
The charges are pending crown approval. Additional information, including the names of those charged, is anticipated once charges have been laid.
Jasper RCMP Staff Sergeant Rick Bidaisee said the seizure was the result of a six-month investigation focusing on the distribution of illicit street drugs in the Jasper community.
“These inherently addictive and toxic substances pose significant public safety concerns,” Bidaisee said. “Coupled with the use of weapons in their distribution, these substances greatly increase public safety concerns.”
As the investigation continues, Jasper RCMP members will continue to focus on these types of criminal activity, Bidaisee said.
“The is part of our mandate to provide a safe community.”
Alberta RCMP media officer Cpl. Matthew Howell said this would be a significant seizure in any police detachment.
“That is a lot of guns and drugs now in police possession, which is a good thing for the community,” he said.
