Jasper RCMP members responded to a call of a deceased male under the ice at Lake Annette in Jasper National Park yesterday (November 21).
On November 21, Parks Canada assisted RCMP in a recovery operation after being alerted to a body under the ice on Lake Annette. RCMP are investigating.
“Our hearts and thoughts are with the family and friends of the individual,” said Janelle Verbruggen with Parks Canada.
The Lake Annette area was closed while Jasper RCMP, with the assistance of Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services and Jasper National Park Visitor Safety Team, conducted their investigation.
The area has since reopened and there is no concern for public safety.
“The deceased was identified and next of kin notifications are underway,” said Cpl. Matthew Howell.
No further information will be released until those notifications have been completed, Howell said.
