Casey Paterson is using Jasper’s Moonlight Madness festivities for a good cause.
The nine-year-old Jasperite will be setting up at Mettra Pharmacy on November 25 to collect socks through his charity program, Warm Feet, Warm Hearts.
Working in collaboration with Boyle Street Community Services and the Yess organization (two family-oriented support centers in Edmonton), Warm Feet, Warm Hearts aims to bring socks to individuals struggling with homelessness during the winter months. Casey will be collecting new and lightly-used socks, as well as monetary donations, for the cause. To sweeten the deal, contributors will receive a Moonlight Madness coupon for Mettra.
The idea came about when Casey and his family were in Edmonton.
“We saw people that were struggling with homelessness, and I guess we just wanted to help them,” he said.
Casey dediced to take action. He began to research the items and resources that were most needed: socks were at the top of the list. With winter on its way, Casey began contacting local businesses and offices to organize sock drives and donations, as well as planning for tomorrow’s (November 25) Moonlight Madness event.
Warm Feet, Warm Hearts isn’t Casey’s first charitable rodeo—over the last two years he’s contributed approximately $2,000 to the Hinton SPCA through bottle drives and soap sales. He’s partnered with Mettra in the past, too, and hopes to continue the Moonlight Madness collaborations well into the future.
“I’m just happy that I’m helping out people that are in need,” he said.
For those wishing to contribute to Warm Feet, Warm Hearts, bring either a pair (or pairs) of socks, or a monetary donation, to Casey’s booth at Mettra Pharmacy on November 25. Casey and his mom, Twila, can also be reached at caseyswarmsocks@gmail.com
