Jasper’s electric transmission line has been repaired, power is back online and the community is eager to welcome back visitors.
ATCO restored power to the community via the repaired transmission line early this morning (September 14, 1 a.m.) after operating precariously for 10 days on back up, generated power.
“We are happy to report that Jasper now has suffcient, stable and reliable power and we are able and eager to safely welcome visitors back,” Amanda Stevens, the Emergency Coordination Centre’s Information Officer, wrote in an emailed statement.
The statement thanked ATCO and Parks Canada for their resources and personnel dedicated to fighting the Chetamon wildfire and to restoring electric power to the community. Firefighting efforts continue. There is no risk to the townsite from the wildfire.
The statement acknowledged community members coming together and the commercial sector’s support.
“To all we extend our deepest thanks an appreciation and lasting gratitude,” Stevens said.
The full statement is available on the Municipality of Jasper’s website and social media channels.
